Green Mountain

The dry summer has again limited the amout of fall color we will see, but we did manage a nice walk through Madison County Nature Trail on Green Moutain on the peak weekend for color.

The Lake level is very low, low enough for grass to have taken over the lake bed along the shallower end.

New York City

Had an opportunity this past weekend to make a very brief trip to New York City. We didn't get much time for sightseeing, but did manage to see a couple of the sights.

The air was very hazy on the flight up to New York, courtesy of the high pressure that was brought 70 degree temperatures to the eastern US for the past week, but 70 degrees feels wonderful after the blustery mid 30's of last week, so we are happy with hazy. It is not like we would have ventured up any high buildings just for the view anyway! Once we did reach New York the haze was still evident, but the New York Skyline was still impressive.

Once we got checked into the Dumont Plaza Hotel the first place we wanted to visit was the Rose Planetarium. Next morning was the opportunity for a whirlwind tour. First Times Square to see the advertisements and the lights . Yeah, we really should have done this last night when it was dark, but we were too pooped!

Next stop, Battery Park, Statue of Liberty, and the World Trade Center.

When we did manage to stop in the room for a few minutes we had a great view of 34th street and the Chrysler Building.

.....and what trip to New York would be complete without a trip to the Empire State Building. We had seen it the previous night a few blocks up from our hotel, now we walked to the base to look up. Lack of time and both of us not being great with heights meant we stayed AT THE BOTTOM, but it is impressive none-the less!
